Dr. Brent Williams, board-certified urologist at Jamestown Regional Medical Center (JRMC), has earned a prestigious Center of Excellence Award from Medtronic for his work treating patients with overactive bladder and urinary retention using the InterStim™ system. JRMC is the first facility in North Dakota to receive this designation.

The award recognizes Dr. Williams’ expertise and commitment in helping patients regain control of their bladder and bowel function through this advanced third-line therapy. Since December 2009, he has implanted more than 250 devices.
“This recognition speaks volumes about the level of specialty care offered right here in Jamestown,” said JRMC Specialty Clinic Manager Mercede Fiebiger. “Patients travel across the state and even from Minnesota to receive care from Dr. Williams because of his skill, his approachability and the results he helps them achieve.”
The InterStim™ device uses gentle stimulation of the sacral nerves to restore communication between the brain and bladder or bowels. Patients use an app to manage their treatment in real time with support directly from Medtronic, the manufacturer. The latest systems are also MRI-compatible, offering further safety and flexibility to patients.
“These conditions affect people’s quality of life every day,” Fiebiger said. “Patients often don’t know this treatment exists, or that it’s available locally. This award brings awareness to that.”
Medtronic presented the award in person at JRMC to Dr. Williams on August 5 and will be featuring him and JRMC Urology on its national website.
This designation not only highlights the number of successful procedures performed at JRMC, but also the clinic’s coordination, commitment to advanced technology and patient-centered approach.
